First Week in the MTC

We were set apart as missionaries on Monday, October 24 by President Dale Mouritsen, counselor in the stake presidency, since President Carmack, our stake president was out of the country. We got to Ray and Rosemary's Wednesday afternoon,  visited a little while and joined with their ward and went to the Timp Temple.
This morning (Thursday) we got a call from the SLC pharmacy, who was to prepare a years worth of prescription medicine for our trip, saying they never received anything from mom,but had my prescriptions.  We sent everything in the same envelope so they somehow misplaced it.  Luckily I had a copy of everything I sent so I faxed it to them this morning.  Hopefully they will get it all together before we leave.  They wanted us to go back to the doctors at Kaiser and have everything reprepared and resent, and I told them "no way" because we were already in SLC.  It sounds like they will work with what I faxed them.
We went to see one of mom's 2 remaining aunts near the airport and had a nice visit.  Her other aunt has alzheimers and would not recognize her any more.  On Friday mom and Rosemary went shopping to pick up a few last minute items.  On Saturday we had lunch with Colleen, Marilyn, Wayne and their spouses at Applebees.  It was a very nice get-together.
This morning we got up early and went to the Tabernacle to see and hear the Mormon Tabernacle Choir perform.  It was very enjoyable.  We came home and had lunch and went to church with Ray and Rosemary at 2:30.  Tonight is our last night to relax and we need to report to the MTC tomorrow morning between 10am and 11:30am.
We'll try to let you know about reaching us as soon as we know something ourselves.  These are some of  Boyd's e-mails to the family.
We just completed our first week at the MTC.  It has been a busy, spiritual, and learning exerience.  Tonight we listened to the Church,s head lawyer.  He talked of spirital experiences he has had in opening other countries to receive missionaires.  For example, he has seen the hand of the Lord in opening some of the Communist countries.  He also reported that we now we have missionaries in Pakastan.  I wish I could relate all of his stories but my memory fails me.  But his talk was very interesting and enlightening as to how temples are built and countries opened.  There is a large staff of lawyers building church relationships with foreign governments and helping establish new laws to provide religious freedom.  He spoke of the fact that most of the worlds population live where there is little or no religious freedom.
We only had dinner today because it is fast Sunday.  We almost felt a little twang of hunger.  I guess they are trying to fatten us up and it is working.
One more excerpt from Boyd's e-mails.
