Tonight is Friday night and we have just completed our first segment of training in the MTC. We focused the entire week on the book, "Preach My Gospel", which helps guide people how to become effective missionaries. EvIen though we will not likely do much teaching of non-members, it will help us work with member activation and other related activities. We did lots of role playing and enjoyed meeting a lot of nice couples. There are couples here going all over the world so it is intertesting to talk to many of them. There were 4-5 couples going to Africa. I think we will be traveling with one of them.
The food has been very good, and of course there was far more than we needed. Every day we had several choices which varied from "very healthy" to what some might call "junk food." Tomorrow is Saturday so we plan on getting up, doing our laundry and I will get a hair cut. In the afternoon we might go look for a small camera that will fit in a suit pocket. They have a shuttle available to take us to/from a mall so we will use that. Snow is predicted for tomorrow. In fact, it will be in the 30's most of our remaining days.
I have had some trouble with Skype since yesterday but mom's computer works so you can call us anytime. My ipod touch will work with skype also.
We will be leaving Thursday morning at 6am for the SLC airport and will arrive in Johannesburg after 19 hours of flying and 3-4 hours in the airport.
Today is Tuesday, Nov. 8
We have one more day left in the MTC. We leave at 6:00 Thursday morning with another couple to South Africa. I feel relieved to know that I don't to be a scriptorian or a gifted teacher to teach. I just need the Holy Ghost and the Institute and Seminary manuals. I was afraid I would need to remember where each scripture was found and what they meant but the manuals are wonderful. We have recieved to much help here. I am not so afraid now but know I have to study hard and prepare lessons. All the senior missionaries are just regular people, no one is a master teacher. But we can all learn with the manuals to teach.
We miss our family and friends but are ready for our adventure.
